Who Can Stay

Our Ronald McDonald House is a place of comfort, specifically for pediatric children (ages 0-21, unmarried and using parent's address as permanent address) and their families who need to stay close while their child receives medical care.

Guest families must reside at least 25 miles away. Guests must be at least 18 years of age or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Rooms are available for immediate family members (Mom, Dad, siblings, grandparents and legal guardians) with a limit of one room per family.

First Time Guests

First-time guests must receive a referral through their healthcare provider or social worker. The Roanoke Memorial Hospital social worker will then ask some questions to make sure our Home is a good fit. At this point, you will be asked to complete an official application.

It is advised that guests call the House the day of their referral, prior to their arrival, to confirm that we have a room available. Please note that a referral does not guarantee room availability. When a room is not available, you will be put on a waiting list.

Once your referral is confirmed we will schedule an agreeable time for your check-in. You can access our check-in procedures in our Stay With Us Resource section.

Returning Guests

A referral is also required from your healthcare provider or social worker for each return visit. Please call to confirm that a room is available on the day of your referral, prior to your arrival.

If you are within a year of your last stay you are not required to complete a new application, but you will be required to sign paperwork at check-in. It is your responsibility to notify us if any of your information has changed.

Admittance of eligible guests is based on a priority system:

  • Oncology patients
  • Inpatients and all pre-term high-risk pregnancies
  • Pediatric outpatients
