The House that Love Built

Located less than three blocks from Carilion Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House cares for 700 families a year on average. The House provides much more than the comforts of home for families who must stay with us during such a difficult time. Our House allows families an opportunity to meet other guests, experiencing similar situations, and share thoughts and information. The support system formed by families staying at the Ronald McDonald House is an invaluable resource.

Focusing on What’s Important

When a family has a sick child, the last thing they need to worry about is where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will rest their head at night. The Ronald McDonald House allows families to focus on what’s most important, getting their child better.

Built in 1984, it offers families a home-away-from-home consisting of 18 bedrooms with private baths and 2 queen size-beds. The House also has 2 large dining rooms, laundry facilities, a playroom, a library, and an outdoor playground. There’s even a Magic Room! But most importantly there is an atmosphere of care and support.

Each bedroom has two queen size beds, private bathroom, television, telephone and alarm clock. The House is equipped with Wi-Fi Internet access and a computer, available for guest use, located in the library. An evening meal is provided buffet style from 5-6:30 PM by volunteer groups for all house guests. Guests are able to prepare their own meals at other times in the guest kitchen.

Families staying at the House are asked to make a donation of $15 per night, but no one is ever turned away for an inability to pay.
