Our Mission

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia provides an environment of love, community, and hope to families of seriously ill children. RMHC-SWVA programs give a family with a sick child what they need most – each other.

Why We Strive

Imagine your grandchild being born weeks too early; imagine your active teenager has been rendered silent due to an automobile accident; imagine your toddler being diagnosed with cancer. Now imagine having to travel miles from home for your child to receive medical care. Where will you stay? Can you afford to eat out every day? We are here to relieve these worries and financial burden, all in a caring and supportive atmosphere.

Studies have shown that when staying at a Ronald McDonald House, families are able to spend more time at their child’s bedside and participate in their medical care, enhancing children’s and parents’ hospital experience.

The Ronald McDonald house is a comfortable and supportive home-away-from-home for the families of sick and injured children who must come to the Roanoke area for medical treatment,

The Ronald McDonald Family Room, located on the 14th floor of Carilion Children’s Hospital, offers a place for any adult who has a child in the hospital a place to rest and regroup just steps from their child’s bedside.

In short, thanks to the generosity of volunteers and donors, we are here to keep families with sick children together and near the care and resources they need.
