The Hokie Way and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia (RMHC-SWVA) are proud to celebrate more than two years of partnership, bringing together Virginia Tech student-athletes and the mission of providing comfort, care, and community for families with critically ill children.
Since the partnership began, Hokie student-athletes have supported RMHC-SWVA in a variety of meaningful ways. Each year, they volunteer their time at the House, lend a hand at fundraising events such as the annual Run for Donuts 5K & Fun Run, and help raise awareness of RMHC’s mission throughout the community. Most recently, in April, The Hokie Way hosted a special “Hokie Way Day” at the Ronald McDonald House, giving student-athletes the chance to meet families, tour the House, and see firsthand the impact of the organization’s work.
“The Hokie Way is so proud to partner with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia,” said Matthew Sams, Executive Director of The Hokie Way. “The House is invaluable for many families facing extremely difficult circumstances, and Virginia Tech student-athletes have taken great pride in each opportunity to promote the RMHC brand and the vital mission it stands for.”
For more than 40 years, RMHC-SWVA has served as a “home away from home” for families whose children are receiving medical care in the Roanoke Valley. With support from partners like The Hokie Way, RMHC-SWVA continues to provide lodging, meals, and a caring community—at no cost to families—ensuring that parents can remain close to their child’s hospital bedside.
This two-year partnership underscores the shared values of service, resilience, and community that define both organizations. Together, The Hokie Way and RMHC-SWVA are inspiring student-athletes, families, and supporters alike to show the strength of teamwork on and off the field.
