On March 3, 2019, Bensyn Landry Ayers came into the world seven weeks early at Wytheville Community Hospital. His early arrival brought unexpected challenges, as he needed to be transported immediately to the NICU at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for specialized care. For the Ayers family—mom, dad, and their 5-year-old daughter—this marked the beginning of an emotional and physically demanding journey.
During this critical time, the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia became a haven for the Ayers family. Staying at the House for 23 days, they were able to remain close to Bensyn without the added stress of long commutes up and down the interstate.
“Our time at the Ronald McDonald House was the biggest blessing we could have asked for,” Magen, Bensyn’s mom, shared. “Everyone was so nice and welcoming to my family. Meals were always provided, and snacks were always available.”
For Bensyn’s big sister, the Ronald McDonald House was more than a place to stay—it felt like an adventure. “It must have felt like a vacation for my daughter,” Magen recalled. “Once we were able to go home, she asked if we could go back to the House.”
Today, Bensyn is a healthy, energetic 5-year-old, and the Ayers family reflects on their time at RMHC with gratitude. “We will forever be thankful for the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia,” Magen said.
The Ayers family’s story is a testament to the power of kindness and the comfort a “home away from home” can provide during life’s most challenging moments. Their journey reminds us of the incredible impact our supporters and volunteers make every day. From warm meals to welcoming smiles, your generosity helps create a place where families can find strength and hope.
Thank you for being a part of this life-changing mission. 💙
